Is Mediumship A Type Of Psychic Reading?
As a psychic channel, the Medium receives and delivers messages from the Spirit World to living people.
Mediumship, also known as Channeling, is the psychic communication that takes place between a Medium (someone who can communicate with the Spirit World), and beings from the Spirit World. During psychic readings, Mediumship communication may take place. However, there is no hard and fast rule that Mediumship is involved during psychic readings.
That is because not all psychics have the gift of Mediumship, or acting as a channel between living people on the earth plane, and beings from the Spirit World.
Understanding The Differences Between Mediumship and Human Communication
On earth, living people communicate with each other through various means. A common language is not the only way by which people from different countries, for example, can tell each other what they want or need.
Hand gestures, other body movements, facial expressions, and tones of voice, are also ways capable of delivering messages from one person to another.
With modern technology, many other ways exist to communicate, to share ideas, to educate, to pass on knowledge, and to deliver and receive messages in general. These include social media, telecommunications, and online messaging, as the most popular ways.
If you review the ways by which living people communicate, you’ll notice the presence of 5 important elements:
- The Source or the sender of the message
- The Message itself
- The Receiver of the message
- The Channel by which the message is delivered, and optionally,
- The Feedback to the message
In Mediumship, the first 4 elements also exist, with the 5th element, Feedback, similarly being optional.
All messages delivered by the Medium are never his or her own message. The medium only acts as the channel by which the message is delivered.
The Medium simply relays the message that the Being from the Spirit World wants to be communicated to someone here on earth.
Often, when the receiver of the message does not understand what the message means, the Medium can ask the entity speaking through him or her for more details or explanations.
It should be noted that such details or explanations are not from the Medium per se. They are from the entity the Medium is communicating with.
Mediums Communicate Not Only With Your Dear Departed
Your dearly departed, and other Spirit World beings such as Guardian Angels, Spirit Guides, the Ascended Masters, and even nature spirits such as elves, and fairies, can also deliver messages through a Medium.
As a psychic channel, the Medium delivers messages from the Spirit World to living people.
This does not mean, however, that only souls who have crossed over give messages they intend the living to receive.
Contrary to common belief, a Medium does not only communicate with the souls of the deceased.
Other Spirit World beings such as Guardian Angels, Spirit Guides, the Ascended Masters, and even nature spirits such as elves, and fairies, can also deliver messages through a Medium.
Typical Messages Sent Through a Medium
Beings from the Spirit World may send one or all of the following kinds of messages:

Informative messages
- These could include answers to such as questions as “Where is the Will or Last Testament hidden” or “Did (name) really die accidentally or was there foul play involved?”
- Sometimes, the informative messages could be an expression of regret, apologies, or even guidance about a pressing concern.
- Such information given may or may not be confirmable.

Manifestation
- The Medium may sometimes manifest an object, which is the message sent by a being from the Spirit World. Examples of these are coins or small objects such as flowers that serve as reminders of a departed person, or as proof of the existence of a spiritual being such as a fairy.
- The Medium may also manifest a long-held wish by the Receiver of the message. In such a scenario, the Source of the message is fulfilling the wish of the Receiver, through the Medium.
- The Medium may also be the way by which the being from the Spirit World is able to manifest, sometimes as a recognizable figure, or sometimes as haze or wisps of smoke.

Paranormal Occurrences
- There are times when a Medium may be used by beings from the Spirit World to cause paranormal events, such as when the Medium demonstrates telekinesis, or when the Medium himself or herself levitates.
- A Medium can also be used by beings from the Spirit World to prove a point, through a paranormal activity. An example of this would be when the Medium performs clairvoyance during a psychic reading.
At this point, it must be recalled that not all psychics are mediums. At the same time, all mediums do have psychic abilities.

Psychic and Non-Psychic Energy Manipulation
- A being from the Spirit World may use a Medium to manipulate psychic energy. For example, the mood during a séance may be gloomy, but the spirit being can turn the mood more pleasant, through the Medium who is given the kind of energy that uplifts emotions.
- A being from the Spirit World may use a Medium to manipulate non-psychic energy. For example, blasts of coldness sent through the Medium and emitted by the Medium can make the temperature drop down.
Two Kinds of Mediumship
During psychic readings, a psychic who is also a Medium, may demonstrate both Physical Mediumship and Mental Mediumship, or only one of the two forms of Mediumship.
Generally speaking, there are two kinds of Mediumship: 1) Physical Mediumship and 2) Mental Mediumship.
Their differences are basic.
A Medium who is used more to show the presence of the being from the Spirit World through physical means, such as when solid objects appear out of thin air, is demonstrating Physical Mediumship.
On the other hand, a Medium who has the ability to demonstrate the presence of the being from the Spirit World through mental means, such as when the Medium receives instructions from the spirit being telepathically, is demonstrating Mental Mediumship.
During psychic readings, a psychic who is also a Medium, may demonstrate both Physical Mediumship and Mental Mediumship, or only one of the two forms of Mediumship.
Everything depends on what the being from the Spirit World wants to express.
Remember that Mediumship is a psychic process reliant on a being from the Spirit World. Without this being cooperating to convey or pass on a message, a Medium will have no purpose.
